In 1981 Ken transferred to joint company called Schlencker, Bennett and Francis at Rockhampton where he gained experience in dealing with various Local Authorities and State and Federal Government Departments.

He then went to work in Victoria in 1987 on the Portland Smelter Site and then continued to work as a Registered Surveyor for Gissing and Smith. Ken was involved in large urban subdivisions throughout Melbourne and surrounds as well as relocation and strata subdivisions.

Returning to Queensland Ken worked on the gas pipeline across the Expedition Ranges west of Gladstone.
