Land Information Systems
- 2000
Boyne Valley Infrastructure Relocation Study - Gladstone
Area Water Board. Commissioned to prepare a study into
the effect of rising water levels on properties and roads
in the Boyne Valley as a result of raising the level of
the Awoonga Dam. A database was prepared identifying more
than 500 properties that are affected or will have access
affected in some way. The affect on access was discussed
and alternative arrangements were identified and the
merits of each alternative were discussed. Estimates of
cost were also prepared for all amendments to access and
for the relocation of many kilometres of roads. The
project also require public consultations with property
owners and more than 50 personal interviews were carried
out as well as attending to presentation to Calliope
Shire Council, Gladstone Area Water Board and to public
meetings. The final report consisted of 50 pages of text,
60 A4 colour maps, 35 pages of property database, 18
pages of detailed cost estimates and a folded AO
constraints and graphical action depiction.

Gladstone Industrial Land Service Corridor Study -
Contracted by Rust PPK Consulting Engineers for the
Queensland Government Co-ordinator Generals Department.
DTM of Route, Title Searching, assistance in Corridor
location, preparation of Resumption Plans, consultation

- 1999
Tarawa Atoll, Republic of Kiribati - Photogrammetric Data
Capture, Asset Management and GIS Development Program.
The atoll consists of 70 kilometres of low coral islands.
This program was developed in conjunction with the
existing AUSAID Institutional Strengthening of the Land
Management Division Project. Procedure manuals and
training for the Surveying Department. G.I.S. Data was
supplied to the Lands Department as well as setting up a
G.I.S. for Kiribati Telecom.
The data captured was translated into MapInfo format and
incorporated into the existing system. Additional
developments in the software was written in order to
accommodate the new data as well as make the system more
user friendly for the staff. On-site training and the
implementation of the data took place during three
separate visits to Tarawa. This training involved both
the technical and administration staff in the use of
MapInfo, associated developed software and GIS
application.
The Telecom Services Kiribati Limited (TSKL) project
required the design and implementation of a GIS facility
for Telecom Services Kiribati Limited requiring involved
on-site training of personnel within the organisation in
the use of MapInfo and the applications of GIS.
The project required the translation of paper based
Telecom plans into digital format, and combining it with
the existing mapping from the Land Management Division.
An asset numbering system was designed in order to
develop a link to the asset register which was then
manipulated in order to access it within MapInfo.
The program was implemented over a period of three weeks
when the local staff were trained in all facets of the
process. This training was structured so that the staff
became part of the program and involved the input of data
into MapInfo along with an overview of the principles of
GIS in general .This program is ongoing and over a period
of time, TSKL wish to further develop their GIS to
include more of their day to day operations.
- 1998
Callide Coalfields Pty. Ltd., Biloela Central Queensland
(Shell Coal of Australia) - Callide Coalfields required a
pilot study into how the mine could effectively store and
maintain all information relating to the land. MapInfo
was the preferred tool for this process. Lease
boundaries, environmental data and relevant
infrastructure was combined with the digital cadastral
information to produce a system to meet these objectives.
The aim of the system was to collect all the information
pertaining to a particular piece of land and to allow the
user to interrogate this data with relative ease.
As a result we are looking into extending this project in
the next few months to extend the capabilities of MapInfo
to allow data to be store within the system that would
not normally be stored in a traditional database. This
will provide the user with greater access to different
forms of relevant information.
- 1998
Kuruma Australia Pty. Ltd - Aquaculture Study. This
project involved working with an environmental team to
provide a report to local authorities based on optimum
aquaculture sites throughout Queensland. This involved
providing thematic maps across much of the Queensland
Coast showing various aquaculture sites and their
suitability. The digital cadastral boundaries were used
as base for this mapping and relevant information was
overlaid in order to produce the required plans.
- 1997
Herbert Regional Information Centre - Cane Mapping and
GIS Implementation. The Herbert Regional Information
Centre (HRIC) is a unique consortium of private
companies, cooperative sugar organisations and local and
state government agencies in the North Queensland Town of
Ingham. The HRIC required data collection and input of
this data into the Arc/Info GIS software operated by
them. The project involved digitising cane blocks and
supplying digital orthophotos and vector mapping to the
Herbert Regional Information Centre. This information is
then accessible to all parties to the agreement in the
daily management of the region for government as well as
the sugar industry.
